Sex, Whiskey & Southern Blood Not much has changed. We still don't give a shit about fame, fortune and selling-out for next to nothing, so common amongst the pseudo-artists of the so-called Polish show business. We still prefer drinking whiskey and hectoliters of beer while listening to good old rock n' roll. And now we can finally present our debut album which ultimately defines what J. D. OVERDRIVE is all about. We started out in 2007 when guitarist Michal "Stempel" Stemplowski (along with drummer Luksus and bassist Kuba) recruited vocalist Wojciech "Susel" Kaluza for his new rock project. Soon, out of a few loose ideas came a material that felt like the stench of the muddy waters of Louisiana mixed with a warm breeze of the wind traveling across the Nevada deserts. In early 2008 we self-released our debut EP (pride still forbids us to call it a shitty demo) called "Pure Concentrated Evil, which received a bunch of great reviews in various web zines and magazines such as Metal Hammer, Hard Rocker, Gitarzysta and Heavy Metal Pages. We played our very first show supporting JESUS CHRYSLER SUICIDE and the following two opening for BEATALLICA. In the meantime we experienced two line-up changes, welcoming in our ranks drummer Lukasz "Jooras" Jurewicz and bassist Lukasz "Peo" Pomietło. In March 2009 we were given the honor of performing in Krakow with the living legend of stoner metal - Phil Anselmo's DOWN. This show turned out to be one of the most spectacular things we had ever experienced. In the following months came the inevitable - we changed our name to J. D. OVERDRIVE to avoid legal problems with the Tennessee tycoon. And just when we thought that nothing can surprise us - on March 9th, 2011 we opened for Zakk Wylde's BLACK LABEL SOCIETY in Warsaw. Pure awesomeness. Soon after that we secured a deal with Metal Mind Productions for recording our debut album. We were also chosen as one of the support acts for the Polish leg of BLOOD CEREMONY's tour in October 2011. In November we finally played in Katowice's Spodek where we opened the HARD ROCK HEROES FESTIVAL featuring such renown acts as TSA, THE ANSWER and WHITESNAKE. Our debut album - "Sex, Whiskey & Southern Blood" - hit the stores in May 2011, bringing ten tracks (plus a fancy intro) filled with American dirt, including our own interpretation of Jimi Hendix' classic - "Purple Haze". So far, so good - we're getting mostly positive reviews and we're pretty damn happy about it... What's next? More shows and another album, we hope. Remember: evil came to town and it's here to stay...
